Pre-School to Grade 5 Program/P-5
Pre-School to Grade 5 Program/P-5 is a unique approach to addressing the educational needs of economically disadvantaged elementary school students. Inner city elementary schools enrolling large numbers of economically disadvantaged students, receive annual state grants averaging $188,000 per school. Grant funds are used to develop innovative and successful supplementary educational services. Schools began receiving P-5 grants in the l986-87 school year. Currently 38 schools from four urban districts (Beloit, Milwaukee, Kenosha, & Racine) that are P-5 participants.
Title I is a federally funded program that is administered by states. Title I legislation is designed to improve the teaching and learning of children in high poverty schools enabling them to meet challenging academic content and performance standards. The major goal of Title I is to provide curriculum consultant services to the urban school districts operating Title I basic grant programs. The objective is to promote continuous improvement of educational programs and strategies that will enable urban schools to provide opportunities for the children they serve.
Statewide Pre-College Programs
Statewide Pre-College Programs are open to students in Grades 6-12. Classes are offered at private and public postsecondary institutions in mathematics, art, science, literature, business, and other subjects. Pre-College Programs allow students to experience classes designed to meet their needs and interests. Pre-College Programs help students to: Build self-confidence, handle new challenges, shape and strengthen basic educational skills, and equips students for success in college and careers
